Boris Johnson gives London £2.6 million Cashback Boiler Scheme
Mr Boris Johnson, also known as the Mayor of London, has finally rallied around the cause that we at Hassle Free Boilers have been pushing for the last ten years. Namely, helping households tackle the issue of old boilers that are costing them far more than they need be, whilst causing irreparable damage to the wider environment as a result of their wastefulness. But you have to be quick to take advantage of this very generous offer; it’s limited to only 6,500 households; so when it’s gone, it’s gone.
After blessing London with the unanimously popular Boris Bikes, London’s lovable mayor has shifted his attention to another environmentally friendly way of improving the city, the Boris Boilers – we’re not too sure about the name either…
Studies show that roughly 4.5 million households in the UK are heated by an old, or inefficient boiler; that translates to approximately one out of every six homes being kept warm by a boiler that can be as little as 60% efficient. When you consider that heating the home accounts for 60% of your whole energy bill you realise how wasteful a reluctance to upgrade a boiler can be.
At Hassle Free Boilers we’ve been championing this cause for a long time, be that through a Pay Monthly Scheme that makes ultra-efficient boilers available to everyone or by encouraging people to scrap their old boilers through our £500 Boiler Scrappage Discount, and now it seems like Boris Johnson looks to be addressing the very same problem. His Boiler Cashback Scheme is only available to those whose boilers are 70% efficient, or less. This tends to be boilers that are 10 years old, or older. The Mayor of London had this to say on his innovative initiative:
“This scheme will help London homes become more energy efficient and cut annual bills. As well as saving hard earned cash, upgrading an old boiler gives the environment a huge boost by lowering carbon emissions and making our air sweeter.” His statements are well founded too, especially when you consider that emissions from homes account for 36% of London’s total emissions, and as such, replacing 6,500 London boilers will save around 9,750 tonnes of carbon a year.
This offer becomes all the more attractive when you consider that it can be used in combination with one of our Hassle Free promotions. For instance, Hassle Free Boilers will give you £500 off the cost of a new boiler when we scrap your old model, simply as a means of encouraging people to make the switch to more energy efficient boilers. If you use this in conjunction with the Boris’ Boiler Cashback Scheme you can save a huge £900 off the cost of a regular boiler; a boiler that could cut up to £570 of your energy bills, every single year.
So how do you get this unbelievable offer? Well we cannot overstate the fact that in order to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity you need to be quick; as mentioned earlier, it is strictly limited to 6,500 households, on a first come, first serve basis. So once 6,500 boilers are replaced, the scheme will be finished.
First of all, as recommended by the London’s Evening Standard you will need to get an accurate quote about the cost of having a new boiler installed.
Click here and fill out your details in our Contact Form in order to do so.
After that, you need to apply for the scheme online at www.london.gov.uk/boilers. In order to streamline the process, ensure that you know the make and model of your current boiler before doing so. If you’re a landlord, you will need to provide details of which organisation you or your managing agent are accredited with. Once this is done, simply wait for your voucher to arrive, which should not take longer than ten days. It’s important to remember that you must have the boiler installed and claim the cashback within 12 weeks from the date of issue. You will need to send the voucher and other documentation in the post, so don’t delay.
Boris Johnson’s scheme has been applauded by many highly influential people, including Stewart Clements, the director of the Heating and Hot Water Industry Council, who had this to say on the idea: “It is refreshing to see that Gas Safe Registered installers will be able to undertake the installation work without being forced to gain additional and costly accreditations. The Mayor and his team have clearly done their homework and I hope that MPs are watching closely so that once the benefits are clearly demonstrated it can be rolled out across their constituencies.” We couldn’t agree more, and are very hopeful that once the unquestionable benefits of a scheme like this become obvious, the initiative will spread throughout the UK.
And it’s not just government officials who are happy with what Boris is doing either, many environmental charities have been quick to praise Boris’ initiative too. One of the many being Jenny Saunders OBE, the Chief Executive of charity National Energy Action (NEA), who said: “We welcome the Mayor’s much needed investment in domestic energy efficiency. Replacing an old and inefficient boiler can reduce the cost of keeping warm and in some instances the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. I hope many Londoners will be able to benefit from the scheme, especially those in the private rented sector.”
The price of energy and the effect human beings are having on our environment is a topic that has dominated the news lately, and has been a problem that we at Hassle Free Boilers have been trying to tackle since our inception in 2006. As such, we think it is fantastic that the Mayor of London is taking affirmative action in addressing the problem, action that benefits you, the customer, and the environment as whole, what more could you ask for?
